What's new

The new website is designed to grow into a lasting archive of Rwanda's natural and cultural heritage. It's easier to explore, works better on phones, and makes it simpler to discover plants, places, events, and other topics.

This is only the beginning. Over time, we'll continue adding new categories, improving existing entries, and expanding the archive.

A work in progress

There's still plenty to do.

Some entries don't have photographs yet. Others need more research or better translations. A few pages exist only as placeholders while we gather information.

Rather than waiting until everything is perfect, we've chosen to share the archive now and improve it together with the community.

How you can help

Ibimanuka is built through shared knowledge, and everyone can contribute.

Share what you know. If you can improve an article, identify a plant, explain a proverb, or add local knowledge, we'd love to hear from you.
Contribute photographs. Many entries are still missing images. If you have photographs you'd be willing to share—or can take them—they make a huge difference.
Suggest something new. If you notice something missing from the archive, let us know.
Report mistakes. If you spot an incorrect name, translation, or fact, please tell us so we can fix it.

Help us translate

Today, the website is available only in English.

We would love to make Ibimanuka available in Kinyarwanda and French, but we don't yet have the resources to do so. If you'd like to help translate the archive, we'd be delighted to hear from you.

Contributing in the future

We're planning to build a simpler way for people to contribute directly through the website. For now, while the project is still small, all contributions and questions go through email.

If you have ideas that would make Ibimanuka more useful or enjoyable to use, please don't hesitate to tell us.

Looking for the old website?

The previous version is still available at old.ibimanuka.com and will remain online for as long as people continue to find it useful.
